Several days ago, top 100 cells of waste-free cities of Zhejiang were released, and two units of Haiyan were included, i.e., Seaside Primary School of Haiyan (a waste-free school), and Haili New Century Grand Hotel (a waste-free hotel).

The waste-free city refers to the city that is driven by new development models to minimize the landfill and environmental impact of solid waste,  minimize and safely dispose the solid waste, and fully utilize resources. The construction of a “waste-free city” starts from a “waste-free cell”. The “waste-free cell” is short for the “the cell of the waste-free city”. It is   mainly refers to the school, community, urban park, hospital, factory, supermarket, restaurant, scenic spot, government department, etc. Now  Haiyan has built up more than 100 “waste-free cells”, of which Sanmao Primary School, Seaside Primary School, Haili New Century Grand Hotel Co., Ltd. are provincial-level top 100 waste-free cells.

Through good management, education environment, activities, courses and in-class teaching, Seaside Primary School of Haiyan follows the construction requirements of the “waste-free school” of Zhejiang, Jiaxing and Haiyan and trains students to familiarize them and teachers with “waste-free” concept. This school has established a leadership group, taken the construction of a “waste-free school” as its main work, and formulated relevant rules and regulations. Following the principle of purifying, beautifying, greening its environment, the school has redesigned its space layout. It has made the students familiar to the “green, low-carbon and ecological” ideas through effective publicity, moral education, garbage sorting and wasting no food. Additionally, this school has provided tea-related and sea plants growing courses to make environment protection education more interesting.

By improving facilities, sorting out garbage, advocating healthy life, etc., Haili New Century Grand Hotel has improved its environment image, and it is a “Silver Laurel Hotel of Zhejiang” and a “Silver Leaf and Green Tourism Hotel”. In addition, the hotel has actively responded to the call for energy conservation and emission reduction to conserve water. It was a benchmark unit of Zhejiang for water conservation in 2021. The hotel encourages guests not to waste food, proactively provides food packaging services to minimize waste, participate in garbage sorting to provide a clean and tidy environment for consumers. It actively puts into practice green and ecological concept, and holds activities for the “Cycling Day” for employees every year to advocate a green lifestyle.

In the future, the county will continue to work hard to construct the “waste-free city”, create a good atmosphere for everyone to participate, promote the standardized and diversified construction of “waste-free cells” and accelerate the establishment of the green mode of production and lifestyle to create a green environment for high-quality development.
