Agricultural Economic Development Zone of Haiyan was founded in February 2019 and now it works together with the government of Tongyuan Town. Since its establishment, it has attracted a number of agricultural projects. Its agricultural sci-tech park and modern agricultural park of Hushan have become the candidates of provincial-level agricultural parks.

Tongyuan is a town with steady social development, a long history and happy life. The first Party organization in Haiyan - the Party Group of Pengjiayan was established in Tongyuan, which marked the start of the revolutionary history of Haiyan. As one of the first provincial-level demonstration towns guarding revolutionary roots, and the only one of Haiyan, it has put into operation the beautiful rural quality tourist route “Beautiful Memory • Clear Water of Fengshan” guided by the Party building and the grassroots Party building demonstration spot “Early Spring Snow • A Dream in Rural Areas”. The town has established a new beautiful economy form that visitors can enjoy stories, experience life and appreciate charming scenery across the town. It has fully implemented the pilot project of the provincial-level rural comprehensive reform and constructed rural future communities that are desirable to live, travel and work in. In 2022, it successfully constructed the first provincial-level future countryside in Haiyan and won an excellent award. In 2023, its harmonious and beautiful rural zone “Comfortable Dwelling, Harmonious Tongyuan” won a municipal-level award; the scenic village “Clean Water of Fengshan” was included into one of the first provincial-level Gold 3A scenic villages of Zhejiang; Fengyi Village ranked first for the third consecutive year in the evaluation of 3A scenic villages of Jiaxing. Since 2018, the town has been Model Town of Zhejiang in Constructing Beautiful Countryside, Beautiful Habitable Model Town of Zhejiang, Forest Town of Zhejiang, Intangible Heritage Town of Zhejiang, Strong Cultural Town of Zhejiang, Rural Revitalization Model Town of Jiaxing, Beautiful Water Town of Jiaxing, Model Ecological Civilization Town of Jiaxing, Characteristic Tourist Town of Beautiful Countryside of China and Model Town of Zhejiang for Guarding Revolutionary Roots.
