  • Zhujiamen is a region under Liuli Village of Ganpu Town. Originally, there were 18 families with the family name Zhu, so it was called Zhujiamen (Note: “Zhu” is a family name of China; “jia” means a family and “men” here means a door in Chinese). During the period of Republic of China (1912-1949), Liuliyan was a wharf of Ganpu, and locals rushed for gold in Shanghai then. Some grandchildren about 15 years old of the Zhu families were sent to Shanghai to study skills of producing cotton cloths, sauce and pickle. They worked hard and earned much money, and some of them later went back to their hometown Zhujiamen and constructed characteristic houses with the architecture styles of the buildings of Suzhou and Huizhou of the late Qing Dynasty (1636-1912) and the early Republic of China (1912-1949).

Zhujiamen is a provincial-level historical and cultural hamlet along the river. Now in it there are still lots of buildings constructed in the late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China. Characterized by the horse head-shaped walls, white walls, black tiles and double eaves, Zhujiamen’s buildings are of historical, artistic and research value. The artistic and cultural walls and granary paintings create a strong artistic atmosphere. In 2014, Mr. Jin Gang, a famous scholar, settled here and wrote the book 300-year Song Empire, and his residence “Jianghu House” has attracted many well-known scholars to come for visits and studies. In addition, many cultural and creative companies also settled here such as Three Shadows, Flowers in Bloom along the Road, etc. In Zhujiamen, a cultural tourism industry is being established, which well integrates tourism, trade, film and television shooting and creates a strong cultural atmosphere for Zhujiamen.

In 2016, Ganpu launched the project for the protection of Zhujiamen, encouraged locals to make household relocation, repaired historical buildings, restored ancient roads, constructed public service facilities, and introduced cultural resources for organic renewal. Following the renovation principle of “restoring the old architectural style”, this town has repaired historical and cultural buildings such as the old houses of the Zhu and old granaries, constructed new public service facilities and six functional zones for exhibiting urban development, attracting a number of scholars and artists to work and settle here to build Zhujiamen into a natural ancient village of various flavors and profound culture.
