  • Recently, good news came about biodiversity monitoring: a new species recorded in China was found in the monitoring of large fungi -Marasmius ruforotula (no Chinese name for the time being). It was found in Fangjiawan of Ganpu (Scenic Area of South-north Lake) last October. After several rounds of identification and verification, it was finally identified as a species newly recorded in China.

The new record refers to a new distribution record of known species, that is, an organism with a known name has not been recorded before, but now it is found. The new species with the name of Marasmius ruforotula is basidiomycotina and stratagarales. It is a fungus belonging to Marasmius which contains a variety of small and medium-sized fungi, characterized by small fruiting bodies, smooth or wrinkled caps and variable colors such as white and dark brown.

As one of the key pilot areas of biodiversity investigation and assessment in Zhejiang, Haiyan has attached great importance to biodiversity protection. In May 2023, the county started the construction of the biodiversity monitoring network with the help of Nanjing Institute of Environmental Science of Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China and many universities and research institutes. As of March 2024, the county has recorded new terrestrial higher plants, terrestrial vertebrates, butterflies, fish and large fungi through the biodiversity monitoring network.

The biodiversity monitoring network can help us know better the status quo of biodiversity more accurately, and provide scientific basis for ecological protection, resource utilization and sustainable development. In the near future, the county will continue to construct the monitoring network, gradually build a digital biodiversity monitoring platform serving as a data collection terminal, a remote transmission system, a database and an information center, and standardize the collection, sorting and analysis of biodiversity monitoring data. The county will make full use of biodiversity data, improve data analysis capabilities and technical quality and further master the status quo of its biodiversity to build an ecological model for better protecting biodiversity, optimizing business environment and realizing common prosperity and modernization.
