A profile of Grass-Wood House:

Feng Chengyi, born in 1980s, graduated from San Francisco Art University of the United States with a postgraduate degree in graphic design. After returning to China in 2014, she was ever engaged in the design in the Curatorial Department of Shanghai Himalaya Art Museum and  responsible for the work on the Great Art of Dunhuang. After resigning at the end of 2015, she sold her house in Shanghai with the consent of her family and got back to her hometown Haiyan and chose an old house in the Scenic Area of South-north Lake to start a business as a B&B hotel boss.

“I like here due to its unique scenery,” said Feng Chengyi. “In 2016, I started to construct my Grass-Wood House. I participated in the whole construction process including site selection, structure design, material purchases, construction supervisions and decoration. Within three years, I put my construction plan of the Grass-Wood House into practice. The appearance of the House retains the original shape of the Anhui architecture style. The original house was transformed, and a large public space has been reserved with the hope that future guests can appreciate tea and make communication in public areas, not inside the room. We are an art B&B. Due to my art background, I cooperated with local artists to build the B&B into an art B&B. Every three months, an art exhibition is held here such as Turkish Sketching Exhibition and Exhibition of Collected Works of Takashi Murakami, and art salons are also held on ancient porcelain appreciation and painted fans so that we share our B&B and life with tourists. We have constructed a “Mountain-sea-lake Youth Camp” for the young to make natural science researches in summer and winter vacations every year, which has enriched the activities held in the Scenic Area of South-north Lake”.

Just as Jin Ming, a host of Fuyang TV Station, said after he staying at the Grass-Wood House, “This is a real B&B hotel. The mass of the B&B are not star-rated hotels, and the bosses themselves do not live in their B&B houses, so tourists’ staying in the B&B hotels is not so comfortable. Feng Chengyi and her family live in their Grass -Wood House, so their personal interests and hobbies are well blended in the B&B.” To stay in their Grass-Wood House for a night is like being a guest in their home. It is nice.”

Located in Haiyan, Zhejiang, Scenic Area of South-north Lake is China’s only scenic area that integrates the scenery of the mountain, sea and lake. It is a national AAAA tourist attraction, one of the first province-level scenic areas of Zhejiang and the best resort of Zhejiang as well. The Scenic Area is well located in the central areas of the surrounding major cities, for example, it is about 120, 80 and 110 kilometers away from Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou respectively. With an area of 30 square kilometers, it is made up of five scenic spots: Lakes and Ponds, Three Bays, Eagle Nest Top, Tanxian Mountain Range and Seaside Areas. In this scenic area, tourists can visit the smallest stone city “Tanxian Stone City” of the world, the ancient Yunyou Nunnery that is called “Nighttime Putuo Temple”, the celestial wonder “Rising Moon and Sun Together”, the source of the world famous Qiantang River Tide, and Kim Koo Refugee-a witness to the friendship between China and South Korea. Besides its beautiful scenery, this scenic area is rich in cultural resources, for example, Xijian Grass Hall, Huang Yuan Library, Zai Qing Villa, Chen Congzhou Art Museum and Park of Kings of Wu and Yue States, which make the scenic area full of charm and strong cultural atmosphere.
