With an area of 54.55 square kilometers, a permanent population of 4,3500, six communities and four administrative villages, Wanghai Sub-district is the north gate for Haiyan’s integration into Jiaxing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, and enjoys the best location and public services and the strongest development potential.

Wanghai is a vigorous industrial city. On September 28, 2018, Wanghai Sub-district was established with its development target being built int a new industrial city. In recent five years, it has intensified efforts to develop core industries such as top-end equipment manufacturing, new-type display technologies, electronics, information, health and food industry, and build a ten-billion-yuan, smart and new-type display city of the Yangtze River Delta, a smart and new-type model display city of China and the only smart and new-type display city of Zhejiang. Now this sub-district has attracted more than 600 electronics, information and food enterprises including more than 120 industrial enterprises above the designated size. In 2022, its GDP totaled  4.131 billion yuan, fiscal revenue 397 million yuan and the output value of the industrial enterprises above the designated totaled 13 billion yuan. Now in the town there are three national-level and 11 provincial-level “little giants” that are specialized and sophisticated and produce new and unique products, one provincial-level “hidden champion”, and two companies going public in Beijing Exchange Stock.

Wanghai is a city with a more than 5,000-year farming culture. In this town there is a Weijia Village and its ancient sites in the period of Liangzhu Culture (5,300-4,000 years form now), the ancient site of Damiao Bridge of the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-1046 BC) and Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC-256 BC), Qinglian Temple of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Hongling Temple of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Guangsheng Sauce Shop of the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), Daifeng Temple where the first Haiyan-based Party branch of the CPC was established in 1940s, the stories on Seven Girls’ Experiment Team of Xinfu Village that were ever reported by People’s Daily, and a large number of intangible cultural heritages like Dredging River Mud, Making New Year Cakes, which have been well protected and inherited here. Today, a large number of public service facilities have been constructed and put into operation such as rural theaters, multifunctional cultural stations, Smart Sports Community of Beidang, and smart studies that are easily available to the residents nearby.

Wanghai is a habitable and wealthy city. Within Wanghai there are clean rivers, Grade-3 Hangzhou-Pinghu-Shanghai Waterway, Haiyan-Jiaxing Highway and Hangzhou-Pudong Expressway. It is one-hour drive away from Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Ningbo. In recent years, this sub-district has improved its urban quality and image based on its convenient water and land transportation and unique location advantages. Here you can find high-quality urban development, wide and smooth roads, prosperous industrial parks, residential quarters and business zones, and Jiangyuan Port with clean water and sailing ships. Wanghai has given priority to environment protection and green development, and now it has been built into a provincial-level model town, a “model sub-district” free of direct sewage discharges, a provincial-level rural model park integrating the development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries and a municipal-level ecological model sub-district. What’s more, it has created many grassroots governance brands like “Locals’ Governance” “Fellow-Villager Is Coming” “Ten Rules of Governance”, and has been a “Safe Sub-district” of Jiaxing for five years, so local people live a happy and peaceful life in this comfortable and reassuring social environment.

Wanghai is a city of innovation and dynamic industries. It pays close attention to the digital reform, has created a comprehensive application “Smart Governance of Wanghai” in an innovative matter for the Party and government organs, which has innovated the assessment work on digital achievements and was ever shared at a provincial meeting on regular assessments of civil servants  and operated on the online platform “Cadres’ Home of Zhejiang”. In 2022, Wanghai ranked third in terms of the target responsibility system assessment in Haiyan; the APP “Digital and Smart Qinglian” Future Factory won a bronze award for its reform breakthroughs in Zhejiang, the “Best Application” of the digital reform of Zhejiang and the “Best Application” in digital economy fields of Zhejiang, and was given an opportunity to be shared at a digital reform meeting and was reported by the magazine Pacemaker; “Qinglian Future Ranch” was included into the first “Future Farms” identified by Zhejiang Province. Now this town is intensifying efforts to take the lead in  realizing common prosperity; 11 “Common Prosperity Workshops” such as “Rice and Crayfish Workshop” and “Diligent Workshop” have created more than 1,000 job; Beidang Future Community has begun to take shape, and its elderly care service has been included into the first scenarios of the “Young and the Elderly”, i.e. the common prosperity modern basic units of Zhejiang.
