A profile of City of Sonderborg

With an area of 500 square kilometers and a population of 77,000, Sonderborg is located in the southern Snderjyllands Amt of the Jutland of the southern Denmark. Snderjyllands Amt borders Germany. As a coastal city, it is the city where the headquarters of the world famous company Danfoss is located. In recent years, Sonderborg has embarked on a “zero-carbon” development road, and has declared that it will be built into a city of zero-carbon emissions by the end of 2029.

Friendly exchanges between Haiyan and Sonderborg

Danfoss, a Sonderborg-based company in Denmark, acquired Zhejiang Haili Electronics Co., Ltd. in 2005 and has gradually built Haiyan into its production base in the south of China.With the help of Danfoss, Haiyan has established a good partnership with Sonderborg and cooperated in various fields. In November 2013, Haiyan, as one of the first 12 cities to sign the cooperation agreement of China-Eu Urbanization Partnership, signed in Beijing the “Letter of Intent for the Projects of China-Eu Urbanization Cooperation Cities” with Sonderborg in the presence of Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council P.R.C. and Jose Manuel Barroso, then President of the European Union, which started the strategic cooperation between Haiyan and Sonderborg. Based on the strategic cooperation of China-Eu Urbanization Partnership, Haiyan has strengthened its exchanges and cooperation with Sonderborg in recent years and the two sides have achieved remarkable progress in industrial development, urban construction and educational cooperation through frequent visits and exchanges. In October 2016, Haiyan was honored as a “Demonstration Zone for the Promotion of China-EU Urbanization Partnership” by National Development and Reform Commission of P.R.C. and the European Union. On April 20, 2017, the two sides signed a friendship agreement and Haiyan has become twinned with Sonderborg since then, indicating the two sides have entered a new cooperation stage. In 2018, Chen Lingfang- secretary of the CPC Haiyan County Committee and Sun Xiongwei - deputy secretary of the CPC Haiyan County Committee respectively visited Sonderborg with their delegations. The two sides had in-depth discussion on cultural and educational exchanges and industrial cooperation. During her visit, Chen Lingfang was also invited to attend the 2nd “China-Denmark Local Government Cooperation Forum” in Aarhus and delivered a keynote speech “Cooperation on Green Solutions”.
