Geographical Conditions General introduction: Located in the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou Plain of the northern Zhejiang Province, Haiyan County is at 30°21 '47 "~30°38' 29" N and 120°43 '21"~121°02' 55E and borders the Hangzhou Bay in the east, Haining City in the northwest, Pinghu City, Nanhu District and Xiuzhou District in the north. Like an isosceles triangle with the top angle facing the south, the county with an average elevation of three to four meters is about 31 kilometers away from the east to the west and 33 kilometers from the north to the south. Sloping from southeast to northwest, the whole terrain of the county can be divided into three parts: in the south there are plains and isolated hills at an elevation of about 100 meters and Gaoyang Mountain near the border with Haining City is the highest, its peak being 251.6 meters high; in the east there are plains and inter-tidal zones, which are a little higher than west plains; and in the west there are plains abounding with rivers and lakes and accounting for about two thirds of the areas of the county. With a total land area of 584.96 square kilometers and a bay area of 487.67 square kilometers, the county has a 53.48-kilometer-long coastline extending from Yongle Village in Ganpu Town (Scenic Area of South-north Lake) to Donggang Village in Economic Development Area of Haiyan (Xitangqiao Sub-district), which means Haiyan is the county with the longest coastline in northern Zhejiang. |
