A Russian Literary Award Presented to Writer Yu Hua

  • On the morning of September 17, 2022 (Beijing Time), the award ceremony of the 20th “Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award” was held in Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. The novel Brothers by Yu Hua, a writer of China, won the award of the best literary work of foreign languages. Yu Hua is the first writer of China to win such an award. He will receive a small sculpture of the “Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award” and 1.2 million roubles (pre-tax).

    As one of Russian most famous literary awards with a long history, “Yasnaya Polyana” Literary Award is named after Tolstoy’s former residence to praise the best modern literary works. Brothers was composed by Yu Hua 16 years ago, telling the story of two brothers with distinctive characters. It is a greatly moving novel combining comedic and tragic, weird but touching, national and international characteristics. Before winning this award, it had won other awards such as “Prix Courrier International”, “Global Best Works of the New Century of Le Temps” and “Top 100 Novels after the World War II of Le Monde”
