Nanmen Community of Wuyuan, a sub-district of Haiyan County, has been selected as a pilot community of the third lists of the future communities of Zhejiang this year. This community has been providing life care and health services for the aged with its smart service platforms and intelligent APP. Located in the Living Quarter of this community, a canteen for the aged has been put into operation recently. It is the first canteen for the aged in the future communities of Haiyan.

This canteen is affordable for the aged due to government’s subsidies and enterprises’ support, attracting more than 100 old consumers in its first operation.

According to the policies of the canteen for the aged of Haiyan, local residents over 60 years old can obtain financial subsidies of 2 yuan for each lunch in the canteen, and the disabled over 80 years old can obtain extra subsidies of 2 yuan spent for food delivery. This canteen first satisfies the needs of the aged of Nanmen, and then will serve the aged beyond Nanmen. It is reported that the aged over 80 years old in Wuyuan can obtain another subsidies of 2 yuan provided by the authorities of Wuyuan in addition to four-yuan subsidies mentioned above.

The aged of Nanmen can enjoy their meals in this canteen after their identity information is input and payment is made through a facial recognition system.

In the future, more canteens for the aged will be built or upgraded in the areas where the number of the aged is large or the aged have strong desires for the canteens of this kind. The canteens for the aged are run by owners themselves, or together with a third party or by social catering enterprises to provide meals for the aged at a preferential price.
